At the risk of seeming controversial re. cochlear implant debate. I've always wondered why medical profession, scientists and researchers has persisted in its approach of inserting technology to improve hearing, and yet no sign of any "bionic eye," particularly when most would pick blindness as the most devastating sense to lose.

I find it hard to believe that with all the technological advances in cameras/ high definition imagery/surgical procedures and so forth, that more "interventions" could be made in this field, or am I just being naive?

Indeed, they exist, though none are yet on the market for consumer use.
